Inclusion: Diversity, the new workplace & the will to change

Like a lot of you, Corona virus pandemy is changing my ways of workign and living.

As I can’t travel or go out to theater and restaurants as I usually do with my wife, I decided this week-end to finish to read business books that I started these past months.

As we are going to work and stay at home these coming weeks, I will regularly share my readings (if the book is worth it…) in coming days and weeks.

I will start with this book (Inclusion: Diversity, the new workplace & the will to change) written by Jennifer Brown.

In the rapidly changing business landscape, harnessing the power of diversity and inclusion is essential for the very viability and sustainability of every organization. Talent who feel fully welcomed, valued, respected, and heard by their colleagues and their organizations will fuel this growth.

We will only succeed in this transformation if those in leadership pivot from commandand-control management styles to reinvent how we look at people, every organization’s greatest asset.

It’s also critical that we build systems that embrace diversity in all its forms, from identity and background to diversity of thought, style, approach, and experience, tying it directly to the bottom line.

Jennifer Brown shares proven strategies to empower leaders and associates to utilize all of their talents and potential to drive positive organizational change and the future of work

Her four stages of inclusions are simple but powerful:

  • WE BELONG – An inclusive culture is one where all employees feel welcomed
  • WE MATTER – Leaders need to make sure employees feel values, challenging them and giving more visible assignments to increase and reinforce employees sense of their value
  • WHAT WE DO MATTER – Leaders need to regularly express gratitude to high-performers and ensure that employees feel personally and Professionally respected
  • THEY HEAR WHAT WE SAY – Last important to ensure that employee’s voice is heard in the workplace.
