Dear Colleagues,

From the 25th September – 29th September, we will be celebrating the 3rd event in our global DE&I agenda, focused on Cultural Diversity.

There are a number of different dimensions which we can consider as part of a celebration of cultural diversity, whether nationalities, ethnicities, cultures, or religions, and this particular event will likely take on a different shape dependent on the country you are in and the aspect of cultural diversity which makes most sense for you to highlight locally.

Here’s what you can expect from the global team:

  • Visuals: we have made two visuals available: one in Ipsen’s colours which we will be using globally, highlighting Ipsen’s cultural diversity, and one in the Black History Month colours, as race and ethnicity are an important part of cultural diversity. (though we are aware that those colours will not be recognised everywhere, but can also be a step towards opening up the dialogue) You can access the visuals on the HR Sharepoint: Visuals
  • Theme: we are carrying the Real Us theme forward: this is our first opportunity to show that being the real us carries beyond Pride.
  • Event: educational workshop “Cultural Explorer” will be run twice during the week through our preferred partner MindGym; each session can accommodate up to 100 people, and the workshop is open to everyone. The aim is to help participants develop their cultural competence by understanding how culture affects us and our ways of working, and finding ways of valuing each others’ differences as we collaborate.
If you are interested in running further workshops on this topic locally through MindGym, please reach out.
  • LinkedIn learning content: Understand cultural diversity in the workplace (linkedin.com)
  • Employee involvement: “it’s pronounced” campaign on Yammer: run a Yammer campaign to encourage employees to share how their name is pronounced, since getting someone’s name right is one of the first marks of respect and something that can be particularly difficult across different languages.
  • Communications: Global email: 25th September (translations to be proposed w/c 21.08)

Suggestions for local initiatives: Cultural Diversity events are some of the most appreciated events in the calendar, and a great opportunity to bring people together:

  • Run an internal cultural sharing event where staff bring their own food from their own culture / or music from their culture / …
  • Food truck from a given culture / book a chef from a given culture to demonstrate how to make a given dish
  • Run a “living library” for the week: identify staff who are happy to share aspects about their culture and can be reached out to on a 1:1 basis by a colleague who wants to learn about an aspect of that culture (you could even identify staff willing to share with colleagues beyond their own sites- if so please let us know and we will showcase those colleagues on the D&I page on My Ipsen)
  • Have a story corner for tales from different cultures
  • Invite employees to give a lunch & learn about their country / culture / religion…

Whatever you do, please share pictures so that we can showcase them via My Ipsen!
